WordQuest — Privacy Policy
1. Who we are
WordQuest is published by LeeForge. For any privacy question, or to exercise any right described below, contact support@leeforge.app.
2. Who the app is for
WordQuest is intended for users aged 18 and over. It is not directed to children, it is not part of the Google Play Families programme, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has used the app, contact us and we will help you clear the data.
3. What stays on your device
Everything you create in the app is written to local storage on your phone and nowhere else:
- the words and decks you add, including meanings, examples and pronunciations;
- your review history and spaced-repetition schedule;
- your progress: experience points, level, coins, streak, achievements and statistics;
- your settings: app language, learning and translation language, daily goal, reminders and purchased themes.
We have no copy of any of it. We cannot see it, we cannot recover it for you, and it is not backed up to us. If you export your words to a CSV file, that file is written to a location you choose on your device; we never receive it. Text-to-speech playback is handled by the speech engine already installed on your device.
4. Advertising
WordQuest shows ads served by Google AdMob (the Google Mobile Ads SDK). Ads appear only on passive screens — statistics, your word and deck lists, your profile, achievements, help, settings and similar — plus an optional “watch an ad” reward and, occasionally, a full-screen ad after a quiz result. Ads never appear while you are studying: not on flashcards, not during a quiz, not while typing, and not during onboarding.
What Google may collect
To deliver and measure ads, and to limit how often you see the same one, Google may collect and process:
- your device's advertising identifier (Android Advertising ID);
- your approximate location, derived from your IP address;
- technical information about your device and your interaction with the ad.
This processing is carried out by Google as an advertising provider, not by us — we never receive it. How Google uses data from apps that use its services is described at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites (opens in a new tab), and Google's general privacy policy is at policies.google.com/privacy (opens in a new tab).
Your choices about ads
- Consent. Where the law requires it, the app asks for your choice through Google's consent form before requesting any ad. If you refuse, or the form cannot be shown, no ad is ever requested.
- Changing your mind. Open Settings → Ad privacy in the app to reopen that form. This entry is shown where the consent framework requires it.
- Resetting or deleting your advertising ID. In Android, open Settings → Privacy → Ads (the exact path varies by device) to reset it or delete it entirely.
5. Smart Add (optional)
“Smart Add” can draft a word's meaning, translation, example sentence and quiz options for you using Google's Gemini service, reached through Firebase AI Logic. It is entirely optional: adding words by hand, reviewing, quizzes and everything already saved work exactly the same without it.
The first time you use it, the app shows a notice you must accept. If you decline, nothing is sent.
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| When does anything get sent? | Only when you tap Generate, Try another, Retry or Generate all. Never in the background, never on launch, never during review or a quiz. |
| What is sent? | The term you typed, the learning and translation language you selected, the previous text of one section if you ask for another version, and an app-integrity attestation token. |
| What is not sent? | Nothing from your library, your progress, your statistics or your settings. No identifiers of you, and no account — there isn't one. |
| Who receives it? | Google, as the provider of the Gemini API. The app uses the free tier, and on that tier Google may use the content you send to improve its products. |
| Where is it available? | The feature is hidden in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland. |
Please do not type personal information into Smart Add. Use it for words and phrases you want to learn. Because Google may use free-tier content to improve its products, treat anything you send as leaving your control.
The region restriction is best-effort: it is determined from your SIM, then your mobile network, then your device language, and an unknown country is treated as restricted. It can therefore be inaccurate if you travel or use a VPN.
6. Permissions the app requests
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
INTERNET | Only to load ads and, if you use it, Smart Add. Every learning feature works offline. |
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE | To tell you that you are offline before a Smart Add request is attempted. |
AD_ID | Declared by the Google Mobile Ads SDK so ads can be delivered and frequency-capped. |
| Notifications | Optional, and asked for in context. Used only for the study reminders you turn on yourself. |
7. What we do not do
- We do not operate a server and we do not have a copy of your data.
- There is no account, no sign-in and no profile.
- We use no analytics, no crash reporting and no tracking of how you use the app.
- We do not sell or share your personal information, and we run no cross-app advertising profiles of our own.
8. Keeping and deleting your data
Your data stays on your device until you remove it. You are always in control:
- delete individual words or decks inside the app;
- clear everything at once with Android Settings → Apps → WordQuest → Storage → Clear data;
- uninstall the app, which removes its local database and settings.
Because we hold nothing, there is no data for us to delete on our side and nothing to export from us. For data held by Google in connection with ads or Gemini, use the Google links in sections 4 and 5.
9. Changes to this policy
If the app's data handling changes — a new ad format, a new feature that uses the network — this page is updated and the date at the top changes with it. Material changes will also be noted in the app's Play Store release notes.
